چکیده

This paper presents an exact probability process analysis for high-speed and realizing fully distributed wireless LANs with non-persistent carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA). The collision avoidance portion of CSMA/CA in this model is performed with a random pulse transmission procedure, in which a user with a packet ready to transmit initially sends some pulse signals with random intervals within a collision avoidance period before transmitting the packet to verify a clear channel. The system model consists of a finite number of users to efficiently share a common channel. The time axis is slotted, and a time frame has an arbitrary large number of slots and includes two parts: the collision avoidance period and the packet transmission period. A discrete-time Markov process is used to model the system operation. The influence of possible length of the collision avoidance period and packet transmission period, and pulse transmission probabilities on the network performance is discussed, based on the numerical results of the utilization of channel and average packet delay for the different packet generation rate, the length of collision avoidance period and pulse transmission probabilities.

Throughput and Packet Delay Analysis of CSMA/CA Protocols for Wireless LANs in Multipath Fading, Shadowing and Near-far Effects

The channel throughput and packet delay of wireless media access control (MAC) protocols with Rayleigh fading, shadowing and capture effect are analyzed. The Effect of Finite Population on IEEE802.11 Wireless LANs Throughput/Delay Performance

The theoretical performance of CSMA/CA, as it is used in IEEE802.11 wireless LANs, is investigated in this paper. We adopt and modify a previously presented analytical approach for CSMA/CA protocols in wireless LANs with finite number of stations and find closed-form equations for throughput and delay. The presented numerical results highlight the characteristics of both CSMA/CA methods and def...

Performance of Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance Protocols in Wireless LANs

The performance of Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocols, which is adopted as a draft standard in IEEE 802.11, is analyzed in the view of throughput and packet delay. We consider three kinds of CSMA/CA protocols, which include Basic, Stop-and-Wait and 4-Way Handshake CSMA/CA, and introduce a theoretical analysis for them. First, we consider that a network consist...
